Confronted with the opportunities and challenges from China’s access to the WTO, Jiangsu would focus her efforts on the development of agricultural export, improvement in sector structure, sector competitiveness and sector creative capability. To take the lead in China for modernization, Jiangsu is determined to achieve 4% annual growth rate of in the gross value of agricultural and the added value of agricultural products, and 6% annual growth rate in the net income of the rural residents during the 10th Five-year Plan period.

The agriculture in Jiangsu will surge forward on the track of quality, efficiency and export orientation. The agricultural activities will become market-oriented, intensive and modernized. As a result of urbanization, the better-off farmers will be able to develop metropolitan agriculture.
