Agricultural Export

The agricultural export from Jiangsu has increased, at annual rate of 2.8%, from 1,108 million USD in 1996 to 1,262 million USD in 2001. At the same time, the agricultural import soared, at annual rate of 11.6%, to 1,302.92 million USD from 823.62 million USD.

Foreign Investment

By the end of 2001, the accumulated contract value of foreign investment for the agricultural sector was 2.37 billion USD. Over 1,900 joint venture agricultural enterprises have brought in 1.07 billion USD. A number of agricultural businesses, such as Sakata Nursery, PIC Pig Breeder and Agriworld, have come forth to display their competitiveness.

Technical Exchange and Cooperation

Jiangsu maintains active relations with numerous countries and regions for agricultural exchange. During the 9th five-year plan period, Jiangsu procured a large number of crop varieties, animal breeds and latest agricultural technology from overseas, completed 42 agricultural projects in foreign countries, established 14 overseas agriculture-related corporations, and sent over 60 thousand rural labors to work in foreign countries every year.

Agricultural Development Zones

By the end of 2001, 12 provincial agricultural development zones have received 1.7 billion Yuan for infrastructure construction. Agricultural Development Zones are accommodating 1,035 enterprises (including 139 foreign corporations), which have brought in 8.12 billion Yuan.
