National Technical Leader

Thanks to the strategy of promoting agriculture with science and technology, Jiangsu succeeded in swift conversion of academic achievements into productive capability through effective technical extension. The development in science and technology is contributing to 53.6% of increment in the provincial GVAO.

Agricultural Revolution

Jiangsu took the lead in China to launch the project of “three updates” (varieties, technology and know-how) to prepare for technical breakthrough in agriculture. The implementation of the project has updated 85% of the crop varieties and livestock breeds, substantially improved cultural practices, input quality, as well as the technical capability of farmers, technicians and administrators, effectively boosted the agricultural demonstration parks and enterprises.

Research and Education

Agriculture in Jiangsu is backed by such educational establishments as Nanjing Agricultural University, Nanjing Forestry University, Agricultural College of Yangzhou University, Jiangsu Polytechnical Institute of Agriculture, Jiangsu Technical Institute of Livestock and Veterinary, Jiangsu Technical Institute of Agriculture and Forestry and such research establishment as Nanjing Institute of Soil Science, Nanjing Institute of Botany, Jiangsu Academy of Agricultural Science, Jiangsu Academy of Forestry Science, Jiangsu Academy of Poultry Science. The sound system of agricultural research and education has effectively sustained the agricultural and rural economic development.

Integration of Research and Education

The efforts were made to combine the resources of research, education, and extension for maximum deployment of technical capability, the reinforcement in integration of research with production and marketing, in task research and in the conversion of research achievement into productive force.

Agricultural-support Service

Currently the provincial agricultural technical service umbrella consists of 5,419 extension units, including 738 county-level centers and 4,681 township-level stations to support crop production, livestock production, forestry, horticulture, and rural management.
