![]() Jiangsu is located between 30¡ã45¡ä and 35¡ã20¡ä of latitude N, and between 116¡ã18¡ä and 121¡ã57¡ä of longitude E. The provincial territory, vastly flat, with clustered lakes and crisscrossed water channels, covers 106,260 square kilometers (1.06% of China¡¯s territory), including 69% plain, 14% hills and 17% inland water bodies. There are 4.974 million hectares of arable land in the province. Lying across three biological climate zones ranging from warm temperate to subtropical, Jiangsu provides the arability for various plants and is suitable for crop varieties and animal breeds from the northern China, the southern China and the overseas. The province is bestowed with 2,000?2,600 hours of annual sunshine, 13¡ãC--16¡ãC of annual mean temperature and 800?1,200mm of annual precipitation. Currently the province keeps in production of over 40 varieties of food and cash crops, over 260 varieties of timber trees, fruit trees, tea plants and flowers, over 1,000 varieties of 80 vegetable lines, numerous excellent local breeds of pigs, cattle, goats, chicken, ducks and geese, over 40 species of fresh-water fish and shrimps and abundant species of off-shore fish and shells. Jiangsu borders on the Yellow Sea in the east and is the gateway to the central part of the eastern coast of China. The advantageous location has put Jiangsu onto the frontline of the reform and open-up, the hot land for investment and the showcase for rejuvenated agriculture. |
